Spring Career Fair scheduled for March 7

Career Services at Delta State University will host its largest Spring Career Fair to date on March 7  from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Forest E. Wyatt Gymnasium.

A wide array of employers will be in attendance. Three main categories will include the business sector, graduate schools and school districts. The theme for the event is “Statesmen on the Move!”

Businesses in attendance will include UPS, Fed Ex Services, Baxter, PharMedium and StaplCtn. Several banks from the finance sector will be on site, including Wide Credit Union, Regions and Planters Bank. School districts from across the state will include Tupelo Public, DeSoto County, Gulfport, Jackson Public and Cleveland Public Schools. Graduate schools such as Delta State University College of Business, Mississippi State Graduate School, Mississippi College School of Law and University of Tennessee-Knoxville will also be taking part.

“This year, the fall and spring career fairs have been reformatted and expanded,” said Dr. Vernell Bennett, vice president for Student Affairs. “We had a participation goal of 80 employers, which we have exceeded. We now have 93 employers registered. We encourage all students to attend the Career Fair, not just graduating seniors, because in addition to full-time job placement, there are internship, part-time and summer employment opportunities available to our students.”

Nakikke Johnson, student relations specialist with Career Services, said all students are encouraged to attend.

“Students should come dressed professionally and bring copies of their résumé with them to the fair,” said Johnson. “We encourage students to talk and network with employers and ask about opportunities within their sectors. If you need résumé assistance, stop by the Office of Career Services, Union 300. Bennett added that the fair also provides students a unique opportunity to interview with Fortune 500 companies, and is an excellent way to begin networking and making connections in their career of choice.

Students and alumni are also encouraged to visit Career Service’s online job posting site, Statesmen Connect: www.deltastate.edu/statesmenconnect. Employment opportunities are posted daily. The office also posts to its social media accounts — Facebook: @DeltaStateCareerServices, Twitter: @DSUCareerServices and Instagram: @DSU_Careers.
