Faculty to present at Beatles conference

As a part of Beatles Symposium 2016: From the Cavern to Candlestick, held in partnership with GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi, Delta State University faculty and visiting scholars will present papers at Delta Music Institute’s Studio A beginning at 2 p.m. today.

From 2-2:50 p.m., Delta State’s Cade Holder will present “They’re Gonna Put Me in the Movies”: A Study of Beatles Songs in Film Narrative.” Dr. Jeff Smithpeters will follow with “You Can See Them Out for Dinner”: The Beatles and the Fear of Being Swallowed.”

Visiting presenters will include Kathryn Cox (University of Michigan): “Think For Yourself”: Rubber Soul, Revolver, and the Roots of George Harrison’s Compositional Style,” Dr. Jan Blüml (Palacký University, Czech Republic): “Reception of the Beatles behind the Iron Curtain: The Example of Communist Czechoslovakia,” and Dr. Robert Groene (University of Missouri – Kansas City): “A Music Therapy Content Analysis of The Beatles Music 1957-1970.”

Distinguished Beatles authors Ivor Davis and Jude Southerland Kessler will continue tonight’s schedule at the DMI beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The symposium continues Saturday on site at GRAMMY Museum Mississippi. The schedule of events will celebrate the lasting influence and impact of The Beatles with a weekend full of activities.
