Smith named Employee of the Month

Don Smith was honored as the January 2016 Employee of the Month.

The Delta State University Staff Council recently honored Don Smith as the January 2016 Employee of the Month. Smith works as the university’s locksmith.

Smith, a Delta State graduate in 1985, began working as a locksmith for the university 13 years ago.

As a student, he studied music and would later play in bands, and work in recording studios and churches in the music field.

Prior to Delta State, Smith worked at the Bolivar Medical Center as a locksmith for seven years. He has received specialized training as a Certified Institutional Locksmith and Certified Master Key Consultant.

Smith and his wife are the parents of five wonderful children.

Each winner receives a plaque, monetary award, WalMart gift card from the Student Government Association, an engraved insulated coffee mug, a free parking decal courtesy of the Campus Police Department, a box of treats from The Sweetery, a parking spot of their choice, marquee announcement and website recognition.
