Marcella and Her Lovers to perform Wednesday at Levitt AMP Series

Marcella and Her Lovers will perform a free concert in downtown Cleveland on Wednesday (Sept. 16) at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Levitt AMP Cleveland Music Series.

Marcella and Her Lovers will bring an eclectic mixture of the dark magic of Louisiana swamps and the angelic grind of Memphis soul to Cleveland. Their repertoire spans Stax classics to wall-of-sound pop unforgettables.

Lead songstress Marcella Rene Simien, hailing from Lafayette, La., grew up onstage with her father, two-time Grammy award winner Terrance Simien.

In 2009, she moved to Memphis to attend the Memphis College of Art. In no time she was back onstage, delighting audiences with a sound born from fusing elements of her Creole heritage with Memphis soul. In addition to her work with her own group, Simien was featured on her father’s most recent album “Dockside Sessions,” which won a Grammy in January of 2014.

The Marcella and Her Lovers concert will take place on the downtown green space near College Street. Airport Grocery will sell dinners and Delta Dairy will sell frozen treats. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, ice chests and bug repellant. Glass bottles are not allowed.

Kelsey Collins will be the opening act beginning at 6:30 p.m.
