Music students prepping for football season

Members of the Delta Belles, Color Guard and Pride of the Delta Marching Band have returned to campus to prepare for upcoming performances.

While most students are enjoying the last couple weeks of summer, a number of Delta State music majors have returned to campus prepping for the exciting football season, which kicks off with a home game against Fort Valley State University on Sept. 3.

The Delta Belles and Color Guard are already back on campus practicing at this year’s camp gearing up for the season. Delta State’s very own Pride of the Delta Marching Band percussion section is also in full swing at Drumline Camp.

The Delta Belles and Color Guard can be seen dancing with the marching band at every home football game. The groups also perform fun routines at student pep rallies, DSU and community parades, and several marching band festivals throughout the year.

The Delta Belles are under the leadership of captain Abigail Myers, and captain Elizabeth Long leads the Color Guard. The marching band is under the direction of Dr. Erik Richards, director of bands and Dr. Joshua Armstrong, assistant director of bands. Armstrong also leads the percussion section.

Armstrong said he has big plans for the percussion program this year, including appearances throughout the community this fall.
