Classic novel comes to life at BPAC

Tickets are now on sale for "The Great Gatsby" performance Feb. 26 at the Bologna Performing Arts Center.

The Bologna Performing Arts Center is gearing up for the national tour presentation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic “The Great Gatsby” on Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

The production is performed by the Montana Repertory Theatre (MRT), the professional theatre-in-residence company of the University of Montana established in 1967.

The power of Fitzgerald’s narrative and the sheer beauty of his prose are captured in this haunting and heartfelt snapshot of the Roaring Twenties. Much more than simply a story of lost love, “The Great Gatsby” recreates the Jazz Age world of youth, wealth, privilege and reckless abandon.

“Although there are several movie versions of varying artistic merit, the stage offers a new, exciting and fertile ground for the story,” said Greg Johsnon, MRT artistic director. “On the stage we can feel the energy of Jay Gatsby, the sensual allure of Daisy Buchanan and the everyman complexity of Nick Carraway.”

The BPAC is pleased to present the MRT’s take on this American classic, bringing Fitzgerald’s masterpiece to a new generation of theatergoers.

“As Montana Rep continues telling great American stories, we approach ‘The Great Gatsby’ with all the honor and care such an outstanding work of art deserves,” added Johnson.

BPAC executive director Laura Howell said the show should provide a thrilling a performance.

“For anyone who has read ‘The Great Gatsby’ just once, it is hard not to recall many favorite elements of the storyline,” said Howell. “We hope avid Gatsby enthusiasts, as well as those who are new to Fitzgerald’s work, will join us for this special production.”

Rediscover the magic of “The Great Gatsby” at the Bologna Center. Tickets are now on sale and start at $25, with special discounts for groups of 10 or more. There is also a special matinee performance for high school audiences at 10 a.m., also on Feb. 26.
