Nominations sought for Outstanding Woman of the Delta award

By January 20, 2015Uncategorized

The Delta State University Archives & Museum invites nominations for the Lucy Somerville Howorth Outstanding Woman of the Delta Award 2015. The award is designed to bring deserved attention to a woman of the Delta who has made contributions not only to her immediate community but also on a national platform.

Through the arts, literature, civil rights and social justice, past recipients have been ambassadors representing the Delta to the world. The award also provides that the recipient would deposit her papers with the University Archives, thereby adding more primary source materials on women in the Delta for research purposes.

A portrait of the winning nomination will be unveiled at a ceremony once the selection has been made, and the portrait will hang with past recipients in the Lucy Somerville Howorth Seminar Room in the Charles W. Capps, Jr. Archives & Museum building on campus. Nominations must be completed by Feb. 13.

Nominations can be completed at https://www.deltastate.edu/academics/libraries/university-archives-museum/howorth-nomination/. Contact University Archivist Emily Jones for further inquiries on the nomination process — ejones@deltastate.edu or 662-846-4781.
