Journey musician scheduled for DMI All Access

Jonathan Cain, GRAMMY nominated keyboardist/vocalist/writer for Journey, will be featured at Delta State for the DMI All Access series Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in DMI Studio A.

The Delta Music Institute entertainment industry studies program at Delta State University will host Jonathan Cain, GRAMMY nominated keyboardist/vocalist/writer for the super group Journey, as the first guest of the semester for the DMI All Access series.

The event is scheduled for Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in DMI Studio A in the Whitfield Building. DMI All Access is a series of open forums and lectures throughout the academic year featuring industry professionals from various areas of the music and entertainment industry.

Cain joined The Babys in 1979 appearing on “Union Jacks” and “On The Edge” before leaving the group to join Journey in 1980. He aided Journey’s rise to the top with his first collaborations on the album “Escape,” composing and playing the piano on songs such as “Don’t Stop Believin,'” as well as being the sole author of the classic Journey ballad “Faithfully.”

He went on to appear on 13 other Journey albums and compilations. Cain has received two BMI songwriter awards, both for songs co-written with Steve Perry, “Open Arms” and “Who’s Cryin’ Now.”

In 1996, the Journey lineup from the album “Escape” reunited to record the album “Trial by Fire.” Cain remains a primary contributor with the band and was still recording and touring through 2012. In addition to his notable work with Journey, he has released eight solo albums and contributed to solo albums by fellow Journey member Neal Schon.

The event is open to the public at no charge.

The Delta Music Institute is an independent center of study under the College of Arts and Sciences at Delta State University, offering a B.S. degree in Entertainment Industry Studies.
