Mooseltoe comes to BPAC

"Mooseltoe: A New Moosical" filled the BPAC with holiday cheer Thursday.

The Bologna Performing Arts Center was full of holiday cheer Thursday as over 2,100 students packed the theater to experience sold-out performances of “Mooseltoe: A New Moosical,” sponsored by Entergy. Schools from Bolivar, Coahoma, Grenada, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower and Washington counties attended the show.

In an effort to make Mooseltoe a quality educational experience, the BPAC Arts Education Department supplied all teachers and families with an educational supplement including several learning activities designed to reinforce curriculum connections both before and after the performance.

The musical tells the heart-warming story about a lovable moose who wants to fly with Santa’s reindeer. Throughout the performance, Mooseltoe travels across the North Pole in search of the perfect advice from the great and wise Mooseking. Along the way, Mooseltoe meets plenty of new friends, including three diva penguins, an Edward G. Robinsonesque snowman, a fat walrus named Willy, two helpful elves and Santa Claus himself. After a long and exciting journey, Mooseltoe finally encounters the Mooseking, who teaches him to look deep inside and believe in himself.

Following the performance, several audience members shared their thoughts about the show.

“This was the best matinee performance that I believe we’ve seen this season,” said Sarah Beth Childes, parent of a North Sunflower Academy student. “It seems as if every upcoming show gets better and better. The actors were great and I loved the snow-woman.”

Indianola Academy students Riley Kate, 7, and Anna Scott, 6, also shared their thoughts. “I really enjoyed the elves,” said Kate. “I liked the part of the show when the reindeer flew,” said Scott.

The Bologna Center will host three more School-Time Matinee performances in 2015. On Feb. 10, students in preschool through second grade will have the opportunity to experience “The Berenstain Bears LIVE!” On Feb. 26, students in ninth through twelfth grades are invited to experience Montana Repertory Theatre’s production of “The Great Gatsby.” Finally, on March 5, the Enchanted Theatre Company presents “The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon,” recommended for preschool through third grade students.
