Alumni Association announces 2014 homecoming schedule

The Delta State University National Alumni Association recently released the 2014 homecoming schedule. The homecoming weekend begins Friday, November 14 with the Margaret Wade Statue dedication at 2:00 p.m. on the west side of Kent Wyatt Hall. At 4:00 p.m., the Inaugural Kent Wyatt Distinguished Lecture will take place in the Jacob Conference Center in Ewing Hall.

The festivities continue Friday with the Alumni Awards Gala at the Bologna Performing Arts Center at 7:00 p.m. A social for the featured Class of 1964 and the Golden Circle will be held prior to the event at 5:00 p.m., and a social for everyone attending the gala will be held at 6:00 p.m.

The Alumni Association will honor the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year, the Hall of Fame inductees and the Service Awards. The Class of 1964 will be inducted into the Golden Circle and the Delta State Department of Athletics will honor the Athletic Hall of Fame, Coaches Hall of Fame and Distinguished Statesmen Award.

Saturday’s activities begin with homecoming registration from 8-11 a.m. at the H.L. Nowell Student Union. The Athletic Alumni executive board meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Dorgan Center conference room, followed by the general meeting at the Bob M. Dearing Hall of Fame Room at the Chadwick-Dickson Field House.

The veterans exhibit opens with refreshments at 10:00 a.m. in Jobe Hall, followed by a ceremony for veterans in the Jobe auditorium. The Wright Art Gallery will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Statesmen Park will open for tailgating at noon.

The Robert E. Smith School of Nursing will host an open house at the Healthy Lifestyle Center on Saturday from 1-2:30 p.m. The center is located at 1321 Hwy 8 West, Suite 11 and 12. Call 662-843-6251 for additional information.

The Barnes & Noble bookstore located in the Union will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Delta State merchandise will also be available at Statesmen Park from 11 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and in the stadium during the game.

Live entertainment will be provided at the park by Ol’ Skool Revue, Delta RoX and the Delta State All-Star Cheerleaders. Kickoff between Delta State and Mississippi College is at 4:00 p.m. The homecoming queen and court presentation will be held during half time.

Special reunions held at this year’s homecoming include the Class of 1964, the 1954 undefeated football team, the Kappa Alpha Order 50th Reunion and the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Dr. and Mrs. Kent Wyatt.
