Payton receives National Teaching Recognition

Dr. Chad R. Payton, assistant professor of music at Delta State, recently received one of twelve teaching internship awards from the National Association of Teachers of Singing organization. As a NATS intern winner, Payton participated in a ten day mentorship program at Ohio State University this summer, where he was paired with master teacher Dr. Brian Horne from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

Dr. Payton received daily critiques on his teaching and performing, prepared two students for a live recital at the end of the program and participated in a variety of masterclasses and sessions regarding voice science, learning styles and vocal pedagogy.

Payton is in his fourth year at Delta State where he teaches applied voice lessons, vocal pedagogy, the four diction courses and song literature. Additionally, he hosts the Opera Lecture Series each semester and heads the recruiting committee for the department.
