Memphis Grizzlies brand artist hosts exhibit

The Delta State University Department of Art announces the latest exhibition at the Wright Center Art Gallery, showcasing the design and marketing work of David Thompson, director of Creative Services for the Memphis Grizzlies and FedExForum. The exhibit opens Nov. 6 from 5-7 p.m.

Working over nine years in his director position, Thompson has enjoyed guiding a range of projects — from overseeing all print and advertising, to collaborating with interactive, broadcast, motion and in-arena groups to give a consistent and exciting Memphis Grizzlies brand experience.

He has helped design uniforms and basketball courts, season campaigns, billboards and boxes for bobble heads.

Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Thompson worked on accounts in Memphis ranging from local restaurants like Rendezvous BBQ, to other icons like the Peabody Hotel, Memphis Zoo, International Paper, Baptist Hospital and the National Civil Rights Museum.

Thompson’s work has been featured in national publications including Communication Arts, Showcase Illustration and The Typography Workbook. He has also served as the publication designer for Number: Inc an Independent Journal for the Arts for more than 20 years.

The exhibit will feature a variety of projects including some behind-the-scenes examples of the design and marketing process. The show will run from Nov. 6-Dec.13.

Campus and community members are welcome to stop by during regular gallery hours: Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed on weekends, holidays and semester breaks.
