Circus Electronica wows BPAC

Circus Electronica performers wowed the BPAC crowd at Tuesday's main stage event.

The Bologna Performing Arts Center crowd watched in awe Tuesday during the unique acrobatic performance by Circus Electronica on the BPACS main stage. Circus Electronica is a group of acrobats, ballet dancers and artistic gymnasts who infuse music, dance and drama into a spectacular production.

The performers included Ben Talmi (DJ), Angelo Rodriguez (circus performer), Eric Lehn (adagio dancer), Gregory McElroy (mono wheel and pole climber), Alexander Sterling (artistic gymnast), Roilan Hernadez de Paz (hand-ballancer), Hope McCurdy (aerial artist), Sarah Cohen (aerial artist), Danielle Shultz (adagio dancer), Marissa Pfaff (aerial dancer) and Michael Manzanet (artistic director). Some of the performers shared insight about the group.

“What I enjoy the most is when people appreciate what we do,” said Rodriguez. “We have to be able to trust each other in a short period of time. We work out and train 24/7.”

Schulz said that the most important aspects are collaboration, trust and communication.

“Creating art in unique unexpected moments is my motivation, along with sharing my passion of art,” said Schulz. She explained that since her mom signed her up for ballet when she was three, she has never given it up.

Pfaff said she has been in the circus industry for five years and a dancer for 18 years.

“My main goal is to inspire people and give art life,” she said. “When I was younger, I liked to think of myself as a daredevil — I just loved being in the air.”

After the performance, a few audience members shared their thoughts about the show. Katy Rizzo, 11, loved the performance

“My favorite part of the show was when I saw how flexible and strong the acrobats were,” said Rizzo.

Two Delta State students also made comments. “I loved it. I enjoyed the part of the show when the two acrobats were balancing each other,” said nursing student Elicia McGee.

“It was really a sight to see and well worth my time,” said senior Jasmine Clark. “The DJ was hyped the whole time and I enjoyed watching the acrobat climb up the poles.”

The next BPAC main stage performance is the Broadway musical “Sister Act” Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The BPAC also plans to show Disney’s film “Planes: Fire & Rescue” on Oct.26 at 2:30 p.m. For more information, call the ticket office at 662-846-4626 or go online at www.bolognapac.com.
