Pig Pickin’ entertainment announced

By September 24, 2014Alumni

Each year, one of the biggest components of the Pig Pickin’ atmosphere is the entertainment. The 29th annual Pig Pickin’ will feature a variety of entertainment for Friday and Saturday.

Friday night’s entertainment will kick off with the local Cleveland trio Southern Halo at 9:15 p.m. following the Cleveland High School versus East Side High School crosstown rivalry football game at Parker Field McCool Stadium. As soon as the game ends, sisters Natalia, Christina and Hannah will perform a variety of blues, southern rock and pop country hits.

Saturday’s entertainment will be provided by the Delta Music Institute bands Ol’ Skool Revue and DeltaRoX. Ol’ Skool Revue is comprised of Delta State students and faculty, playing hits from the blues, R&B, soul and funk genres. DeltaRoX also consists of Delta State students and faculty and focuses on classic rock. There will also be a DJ in the park and a live radio broadcast from Jim Gregory. The Fighting Okra and Statesmen mascots will be signing autographs and taking pictures at the Legacy Tent.

The Cheerleaders will lead a pep rally at 3 p.m. featuring the Delta State band and football players. At 5 p.m., the winners of the BBQ cook team competition will be announced. The 26 teams competing this year will add to the atmosphere that continues to grow at Statesmen Park.
