Delta State University Alumni Association to host Legacies at Pig Pickin’

By September 22, 2014Alumni

Delta State fans come in all shapes and sizes, and in an effort to get younger fans involved, the Alumni Association created the Legacy Program. The Alumni Association’s definition of a legacy is any child fortunate enough to have one of even two parents, grandparents, or legal guardians who are alums or friends of Delta State University. So far, over 1,000 children ages birth-18 have enrolled in the Legacy Program.

To get their Pig Pickin’ experience started at an early age, the Alumni Association will have a “Legacy Tent” at this year’s Pig Pickin’. Each child enrolled in the Legacy Program was mailed a postcard inviting them to Pig Pickin’. Legacies can request a free Pig Pickin’ barbecue ticket from the Alumni Association. The Statesmen and Okra will be at the Legacy Tent taking pictures from 1-3 p.m. All members of the Legacy Program and their families are invited to attend.

“The Alumni Association looks forward to the inaugural Legacy Tent at the 29th Annual Pig Pickin,” said Jeffrey Farris, director of Alumni Affiairs. “We hope this will become a tradition with these Legacies and that one day they will be attending Pig Pickin’ as Delta State students.”
