Bolivar County Alumni Crawfish Boil planned

Bolivar County Alumni committee members have been working hard to plan the annual Bolivar County Alumni Crawfish Boil on April 5.

The Delta State University Alumni Association has schedule the annual Bolivar County Alumni Crawfish Boil for April 5 as part of the university’s Go Green Weekend. The event will begin at 5 p.m. in the west parking lot of Ferriss Field. There will also be a silent auction set up at the Bryce Griffis Center, as well as a Kids Zone. The Delta All-Stars Cheerleaders, sponsored by the Graduate and Continuing Studies Office, will perform during the event.

Tickets for the Crawfish Boil are $20 and can be purchased at the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni-Foundation House, online at www.deltastategiving.org/alumniassociation/gogreenweekend, or at the door. All alumni, friends, students, faculty and staff are invited to attend. Proceeds from tickets, silent auction, and sponsorships benefit the Liza Vaughn Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to incoming Delta State students from Bolivar County. This scholarship was established in 2011 and was named for past Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs Liza Vaughn who lost her battle with cancer in April of 2012.

“We really want to emphasize the importance of the chapter’s participation in giving out area scholarships,” said Will Bradham, vice president of the Bolivar County Chapter. “We all know how much a little money can help one of our area students achieve success in college, and we feel our scholarship program is a great avenue to that success.”

“We have had great support through our sponsors as well as through our silent auction and have been able to steadily increase the number of scholarships awarded to local students,” said Ann Marie Pate, president of the Bolivar County Chapter. “We hope that this year is just as much of a success.”

During the event, the Statesmen baseball and softball teams will be taking on Lee University in double headers beginning at 3 p.m.

The night before, April 4, the Bolivar County Alumni Chapter, Union Program Council and the Student Government Association will have live entertainment provided by Southern Halo from 8-10 p.m.

Bolivar County Alumni Committee members include: Ann Marie Pate, president; Will Bradham, vice president; Gary Crews, secretary; Lana Aguzzi, Craig Verhage, Marks Elder, Patrick Davis, Chrissy LaMastus, Shereka Moore, Lajan Van Vulpen, Libbi Logan, Robin McKnight and Courtney Warren.

This event would not be possible without sponsorships from: Corporate Sponsors; Bolivar Medical Center, Polk’s Meat Products, Casey Family Programs, Air Evac Lifeteam and Patrick Davis State Farm; Okra Level Sponsors: Needle Specialty Products and Nehi Bottling Company; Green Level Sponsors: Vowell’s Marketplace, Image Specialists and Bradham Enterprises; White Level Sponsors: Backyard Burger, Griffith Real Estate, Guaranty Bank & Trust, Cleveland State Bank, South Street Pharmacy, Havens Cleaners and Laundry, Planters Bank & Trust, New York Life Insurance, Delta Casual, Renasant Bank, State Bank and Trust Company, Bolivar Commercial, Rogers Entomological Services, Belflex, Baxter Healthcare Corporation and Security Services.
