The Office of Continuing Education at Delta State is offering a fall and spring program for Delta All-Stars Recreational Cheer and Cheer Prep with Instructor Cheryl Turner. The program will begin Aug. 6, 2013 and end May 15, 2014. Registration is currently open, and the deadline to register is Friday, July 26.

The Recreational Cheer program teaches participants cheers, dances, chants, jumps, stunting, and tumbling all in one. It is a 90 minute, once a week class for 5k – 6th grade children. Squads will be divided up by their tumbling skill level. Participants will learn a competition style cheerleading routine that will be performed at local events at the University and throughout the community. The Delta All-Stars Recreational Cheer squads were seen performing at various events last year such as Crosstie Arts Festival, Delta State University Basketball Games, Saturdays in the Park and the Annual Bolivar County Alumni Crawfish Boil at Delta State. Participants will be expected to purchase a cheer uniform to be worn at the performances and to be committed to the squad August – May. The cost of Recreational Cheer is $70 per month with a one-time $30 equipment fee due with the application.

Cheer Prep is a 60 minute, once a week class for individuals in grades 7 – 12. It prepares participants for upcoming cheer squad try-outs at their school. Existing cheerleaders are also able to take classes to sharpen their skills and technique. Classes will focus on jumps, motion, stunting and tumbling techniques. Cheer Prep costs $55 per month with a one-time $30 equipment fee due with the application.
