By May 20, 2013General

Delta State University’s Healthy Campus/Community Initiative (HCCI) is offering group fitness classes during the summer at the Forest E. Wyatt Gym on campus.

A variety of classes offer a wide range of training, including indoor cycling, cardio, strength, flexibility, and dance. Personal fitness testing and wellness instruction are also available at no cost by appointment.

“Healthy Campus/Community Initiative is thrilled to offer summer group fitness classes to both the Delta State University campus and the Cleveland community. We offer a variety of programs to fit any fitness level from the beginner to the advanced. Classes range from strength and conditioning classes to a dance themed Zumba class,” said Krista Davis, coordinator of HCCI and registered dietician.

Group fitness participant, William Powell, said, "It would be hard to top the excellence and dedication of our fitness instructors, coupled with the camaraderie of the class group experience. It makes for a fun and productive workout experience."

Building a healthy campus and healthy community is the goal of a collaborative effort between Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation and Delta State University.

“HCCI is so proud of our large group of participants dedicated to their fitness and wellness! This program provides a wonderful opportunity to beat the summer heat and ‘Have Fun and Get Fit’ with a great group of people,” said Davis.

Classes will be led by Krista Davis, Kevin Tripp, HCCI assistant and Bell Academy physical education teacher, Todd Davis, director of Recreational Leadership, and Holly Potter, a senior recreation leadership major and a DSU Healthy Campus/Community Initiative student public relations team member.
