Dr. Karen Fosheim Dr. James Tomek

Dr. Karen Fosheim and Dr. James Tomek will present Harmonies Poétique et Religieuses, a recital of piano and poetry, on Tuesday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center.  Fosheim is a Delta State University Professor of Music and Tomek is a Professor of French.

The works on this program explore the connection of music and poetry to the divine, whether it be a religious figure or a muse of sorts.  Tomek will read from the works of the French poets Alphonse de Lamartine and Victor Hugo, and explore this topic through his own writing.

Featured musical selections will be piano works by Frederic Chopin and Franz Liszt.  Liszt composed a set of piano pieces on the Lamartine poems from Harmonies Poétique et Religieuses. Also on the program are works by American composers Samuel Barber and Robert Muczynski.

Fosheim teaches piano, music theory, American music courses, and directs the African music ensemble at Delta State University.  Tomek teaches French and English, and courses in the new Master of Liberal Arts Studies program at Delta State University.

The concert is free and open to the public.  For more info call 846-4622.
