Delta State freshman Minji Kim Takes First Prize at Alcorn State University Piano Competition

Delta State freshman Minji Kim, a music major from Seoul, South Korea, recently won first prize at the college division of the sixth annual Alcorn State University Piano Competition hosted by the music department of Alcorn State University in Natchez, Mississippi. She competed with students from Mississippi and Louisiana.

Kim started piano study at the age of five and graduated from Deokwon Arts High School in Seoul, Korea.  She has presented solo and duo recitals as well as performances with orchestras.   She has performed Liszt piano concerto No. 1 and Tchaikovsky concerto No. 1 with the Gwacheon Youth Orchestra and the Deokwon Arts High School Orchestra respectively in Korea.  She performed in master classes with prestigious teachers and the Delta State annual Art of the Piano event in Cleveland, MS. She is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Music degree program at Delta State University, studying piano with Dr. Jung-Won Shin.

Kim will present a freshman recital during music student convocation at the Bologna Performing Arts Center Recital Hall on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 1:30 pm.  The recital is open to the public.  Please call the Delta State University Music Office at (662) 846-4123 for more information.
