By March 28, 2013General

The Delta State University Alumni Association is gearing up for the annual Bolivar County Alumni Chapter Meeting. This year’s event will be held Friday, April 5, at 6:00 p.m. at the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni-Foundation House. Crawfish and Jambalaya plates are $20, and kid’s plates are $2. Tickets are on sale now at the Alumni-Foundation House. They can also be purchased at the door. To learn more about the event, check out the video that the Bolivar County Committee Members made: http://tinyurl.com/cjgqmox.

This year’s event will also feature former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Joe Horn. Horn has teamed up with Polk’s Sausage to create his own barbecue sauce, jambalaya mix, and sausage. There will be plenty of activities for the whole family including a silent auction, crawfish races, a kids zone, and special updates from campus. This year’s featured speaker is Head Football Coach Todd Cooley. Entertainment will be provided by Ol’ Skool Revue, DeltaRoX, and Southern Halo!

“This year’s event is going to be bigger and better than any we have hosted before. We have added more entertainment, more food options and more fun for the whole family,” said Ann Marie Pate, president of the Bolivar County Chapter. “Bring everyone out to enjoy a night with your Delta State alumni family!”
All proceeds raised from the event go toward the Bolivar County Alumni Scholarship. This Scholarship is awarded each year to Delta State University students from Bolivar County.

Over 8,000 invitations, which included other important dates, were sent out this year to alumni and friends in Bolivar County as well as Coahoma, Sunflower, and Washington counties. The event will kickoff Spring Sports Weekend. As part of Spring Sports Weekend, The Lady Statesmen Softball team will take on the University of North Alabama in a double header Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m., and they will face Union University in a double header at noon on Sunday, April 7. The Statesmen Baseball team will player Shorter College at 3 p.m. in a double header Saturday, and at 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

The Delta State Athletic Department is also hosting the annual Wyatt Golf Classic Friday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Derrall Foreman Golf Course. The four man mixed scramble is $50 per individual, and proceeds benefit the Green and White fund.

“We are looking forward to another great event here in Bolivar County. This night would not be possible without our volunteers who donate their time and energy to make this a success,” said Jordan Thomas, assistant director of alumni affairs. “We are also very appreciative of everyone who donated a silent auction item. The silent auction is always a success, thanks to everyone who helps.”
