Delta State’s Recreation Leadership Program Hosting Outdoor Photo Contest and Adventure Film Experience

Delta State University’s College of Education and Human Sciences Recreation Leadership Program is hosting an Outdoor Photo Contest and Adventure Film Experience. The contest is open to Delta State students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and submissions will be accepted until March 18.  All winners will be announced at the Adventure Film Experience night during intermission on March 20 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Jobe Hall Auditorium on the campus of Delta State University.

The goal of the contest is to see the different views of the outdoors through the eyes and lenses of the Delta State network. The Adventure Film Experience will showcase different outdoor adventure documentary films for the audience to view the hardships as well as the amazing adventures that the outdoors can offer. Holly Potter, a senior recreation leadership major and a DSU Healthy Campus/Community Initiative student public relations team member, along with Todd Davis, HPER Director of Recreation Leadership under the “Dave Heflin Professorship,” will be directing and coordinating the free campus event.

Participants are eligible to submit up to five photos (1 photo per category). These categories include: Outdoor Recreation; Outdoor Wildlife; Outdoor Landscape; Outdoor Whimsical; Mississippi Outdoor.  Definitions for these categories are located on the official Facebook page.  

Entries should be submitted as .jpgs and named in the following manner: Category, Last Name, First Name, Photograph Title. Email your submission(s) separately to dsu.outdoor.photo@gmail.com. Photos should have been taken within a year (January 2012-present).

Important Dates:
>March 18, 2013, 12:00 p.m.(noon) -end of photo submission period.
>March 18, 2013, 12:00 p.m. (noon) to March 20, 2013 12:00 p.m. (noon)-voting for People’s Choice Award time period.
>March 20, 2013, 12:00 p.m. (noon)-voting stops.
>March 20, 2013, 6:00-9:00 p.m.-Adventure Film Experience night with photo winner announcements during intermission.

Photo submissions will be available for viewing on the DSU Outdoor Photo Contest & Film Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/DsuOutdoorPhotoContestFilm ). All photo winners will be awarded locally sponsored prizes.  Also, there will be multiple prize raffles throughout the film experience. To be eligible for a raffle prize you must be present to win. You will receive one raffle ticket upon attending the film night, and extra tickets can be purchased (3 tickets for $5). Raffle prizes include outdoor equipment such as backpacks, boots, a tent, etc.
