The Delta State University Career Ambassadors in conjunction with the Office of Career Services hosted the “Sweets of Giving a Heart to Save a Life” fundraiser to support HIV/AIDS awareness on Valentine’s Day in the H. L. Nowell Union.
Career Ambassadors Coordinator Wilnessa Foster stated the fundraiser was developed to educate students, faculty, and staff about HIV/AIDS awareness. “By hosting a fundraiser that parallels with Valentine’s Day, ambassadors were able to provide incentives for people to stop by their table and learn about the program and HIV/AIDS stats,” she said.
“Ambassadors sold Valentine’s Day bouquets, candy jars, and gift bags to sell to members of the DSU community; also, pamphlets and brochures were distributed to inform the community about HIV/AIDS,” said Foster.
“Our Career Ambassadors serve as liaisons between the Office of Career Services Office and the student body. The group consists of students from various classifications and majors. We have members ranging from freshmen to seniors to Graduate Students. Members have various backgrounds and skills that contribute to their ability to sponsor campus-wide projects and events,” said Foster.
Foster announced that the Career Ambassadors are in the process of planning for recruitment later this semester and the Office of Career Services is planning for the Annual Super Chicken Road Show which will take place February 28-March 1. Foster also added that the Spring Teacher Recruitment Day and the Social Work Career Fair will take place March 6 and March 25.
