The Bologna brings the Music of the Beatles to the Delta

By January 17, 2013General

The BPAC presents “The Long and Winding Road” featuring some of the Beatles’ biggest hits on Thursday, January 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Musician Jim Witter will bring “The Long and Winding Road,” a multimedia exploration of the complicated songwriting relationship between Paul McCartney and John Lennon of The Beatles, to the Bologna Performing Arts Center on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at 7:30pm.

Few can argue that The Beatles were the greatest rock/pop group of all time.  Their music shaped a decade and cut the trail to modern music today.  But where did those incredible songs come from?  What inspired one of history’s most prolific pop song-writing teams to come up with such timeless hits as “Yesterday,” “A Hard Day’s Night,” “Hey Jude,” “Let It Be,” and countless others?

Get ready to take a trip down “The Long and Winding Road” and explore the sometimes tumultuous relationship of Lennon and McCartney and some of the stories behind the songs that have become a part of our lives.  Jim Witter and his incredible band will be your tour guides on this “Magical Mystery Tour” into the minds of the legendary creators behind The Beatles’ biggest hits.

“The Long and Winding Road” features 18 songs from the Lennon-McCartney catalog, including “Yesterday,” “Penny Lane,” “Hey Jude” and “Let It Be.” The multimedia production uses screens to display images and tell the stories behind the songs – for instance, that McCartney wrote “Let It Be” after his mother appeared to him in a dream. Witter, on piano, is accompanied by a drummer, bassist, guitarist and keyboardist. “The Long and Winding Road” is not an impersonation of the Beatles,” Witter stresses.  “More than anything, it honors the music and the songwriting.”

“Many people love the music of the Beatles,” says Loyd McDowell, technical assistant at the Bologna.  “This is going to be a great show.   I think our audience members will enjoy how interactive Jim is—some audience members will get a chance to come on stage with the band!”

Whether it is his country music, contemporary Christian, or the music of The Beatles, Jim Witter’s versatility as an artist has allowed him the opportunity to reach out and share his music and his infectious personality with audiences of all ages across Canada and the United States. His unique approach and comfortable rapport makes each member of his audience feel as though they are a part of a private concert in the comfort of their own living room. This, along with his rich, powerful voice and ease of manner at the piano, make him a favorite with theatre goers everywhere.

Witter’s music and songwriting have been recognized on both sides of the border, earning him multiple awards and nominations from the Canadian Country Music Association, the Juno Awards, and most recently the Dove Awards, where his album “Forgiveness” was nominated for Inspirational Album of the year.

Tickets for Jim Witter’s “The Long and Winding Road” are $39 for Orchestra, $37 for Terrace, and $20 for Balcony.  Tickets are available for purchase online at www.bolognapac.com, the Bologna Ticket Office from 10am to 5pm Monday-Friday, or by calling (662) 846-4626.   Enjoy the ride!
