The Mississippi Humanities Council has awarded $4,000 to the Delta State University Archive and Museum to support its newest project, "Preserving and Sharing a Mississippi Delta History." The grant provides funding for the research, development and production of a new traveling exhibit to be completed by January 2014.
"This project will feature photography from award-winning artist, Debra Ferguson, while layering southern authors ‘quotable quotes’ with historically accurate facts to present a stunningly visual and literary piece of Delta history,” said Delta State University Archivist Emily Jones. “The final product will be a one-of-a-kind traveling exhibit with a supporting web presence and promotional materials. The project will also promote preserving our history by donating materials to archival repositories, celebrating our local history and reinforcing a sense of pride and ownership in our history."
“The Mississippi Humanities Council has been extremely supportive of the numerous projects and programs we have hosted over the years I’ve been at Delta State. I am very excited to begin this new project,” said Jones.
The program is financially assisted by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the Mississippi Humanities Council.
