Williams to present senior vocal recital November 29

The Delta State University Department of Music will present Jonathan D. Williams in his senior vocal recital on Thursday, November 29, at 1:40 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.

Williams is the son of Rick and Kay Williams of Forrest City, Ark. He is the vocal student of Dr. Chad Payton, professor of voice at Delta State University.

Since entering Delta State University in 2007, he has been involved with Delta State University Chamber Singers, Chorale, Delta Singers, Opera, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Basketball Pep Band, and Trumpet Choir. He also serves as choir director and bell choir director for First Presbyterian Church under the Reverend Michael D. McLaughlin in Cleveland.
 
Williams is currently the student conductor of the Delta State University Chamber Singers, Chorale, and Delta Singers, as well as one of the student teachers for the  Delta State University Piano Preparatory Program. He served as the trumpet section leader of the Delta State University Marching Band from Fall 2008 until Fall 2011. His composition “Found it in the Backyard” was selected to be performed in the 2008 Delta State University Student Composition Showcase. In the summer of 2010, he performed in the Delta State University choir that toured Salzburg, Vienna, and Prague.

He is the current treasurer for Delta State’s Interfraternity Council and the Theta Upsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He was a member of the 2012 Freshman and Transfer Orientation Leader Team for Delta State.

Williams will be performing compositions by Francesco Cavalli, Jacopo Peri, Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy, Reynaldo Hahn, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Leonard Bernstein.
