The Delta State University Alumni Association recently wrapped up another successful Homecoming. The Alumni Association prepared a wide variety of events on campus for alumni and friends who were visiting. According to Director of Alumni Affairs Jeffrey Farris, it’s important to make visitors to campus feel at home here at Delta State.

“Homecoming is a special time in the life of the university,” said Farris. “We’re very fortunate that year after year we have many different groups of alumni that come back to reconnect with their alma mater.”

Alumni events for the weekend kicked off with the Class of 1962 and Golden Circle reunion Friday [Oct. 26] night. The Golden Circle is a constituent group of the Alumni Association that consists of alumni who graduated 50 years or more ago. This year’s featured class, the Class of 1962, was inducted into the Golden Circle this year.

The Alumni Awards Gala Dinner was also held Friday night. The Alumni Association honored alumni who have dedicated their time to their alma mater. This year’s recipients were: Nan Sanders – Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni Service Award; Paul “Bubba” Mancini – Kent Wyatt Young Alumnus Award; Homer Sledge III – Gladys Castle Friend of Delta State; Gene Ayers – Legacy Award; Dr. Edward Milam – Hall of Fame; Stan Topol – Hall of Fame; Dr. William C. Bell – Outstanding Alumnus of the Year.

Saturday’s [Oct. 27] festivities included a National Alumni Association Past Presidents Social at the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni Foundation House, the annual Veteran’s Atrium Program in Jobe Hall, Delta Music Institute Open House, Tailgating on Statesmen Park, and of course the football game between the Statesmen and the University of West Alabama. The Past Presidents of the Alumni Association and the Alumni Awards Recipients were recognized on the field during the game. There were a large number of alumni and friends in town for the weekend, and Homecoming 2012 was another success.
