Delta Music Institute to Host 2012 Hip Hop Conference

The Delta Music Institute, a recording arts and music industry studies program at Delta State University, will host the sixth annual Delta Hip Hop Conference: Make Some Noise! Hip Hop and Politics, October 10-11 on the Delta State campus.

The 2012 Delta Hip Hop event begins Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m. in the BPAC Recital Hall with a screening and discussion of Sut Jully’s film, “Dreamworlds 3,” a look at the exploitation of women in the mass media. Following the film, an amateur beat contest will begin at 9 p.m. in the Green Room of Young-Mauldin cafeteria. Five finalists will be selected from the preliminary round and will compete for a pair of Beats headphones by Dr. Dre. Contestants may sign up for the contest after the film screening. On Thursday, October 11, Dr. Temika Simmons will host an open dialogue on “The Voice of Hip Hop in the 2012 Elections” in the Green Room from 12:15 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. The five finalists for the beat contest will be announced during this session.
