By October 25, 2012General

The Delta Music Institute, a music industry studies program at Delta State University, will host music and entertainment promoter Arden Barnett on Tuesday, October 30 at 6:00 pm in DMI Studio B on the campus of Delta State University as part of the DMI All Access series. DMI All Access is a series of open forums and lectures throughout the academic year featuring industry professionals from various areas of the music business.

Mississippi native Arden Barnett has 25 plus years in the entertainment business, producing events with legends and superstars, while helping build the careers of multiple new artists. Ardenland, Barnett’s entertainment company specializing in concert promotion, festival management, corporate events, and university concerts, is constantly evolving with the times, and is one of the main points of contact in Mississippi for touring acts.  Barnett has worked with numerous major artists, including R.E.M., Hoyt Axton, Widespread Panic, Pierre Bensusan, and Wilco, among others. Most recently, Arden worked with The O Music Awards, created by MTV and VH1, for the global market. One of his more unique opportunities was promoting the Jackson and Hattiesburg shows for the Flaming Lips’ attempt at a Guinness world-record eight concerts in 24 hours.

Charly Abraham, DMI music industry studies instructor, notes, “Arden is one of the few major promoters who truly loves the music. He books acts on the cutting edge of popular music as well as classic acts. He puts on more shows in a week than most promoters do in a year.” For more info on Ardenland, visit www.ardenland.net.

The Delta Music Institute is an independent center of study under the College of Arts & Sciences at Delta State University, offering a B.S. in Music Industry Studies degree. The focus of the DMI is to provide students with a broad and thorough education in the technological, creative, and business areas of the music and entertainment industry.
