Delta State to host Melanie Tyler Owen memorial exhibition

The Delta State University Department of Art will host a memorial exhibition of the works of Melanie Tyler Owen, July 29 – August 29, in the Wright Art Gallery, beginning with an opening reception July 29 from 4 – 6 p.m.  

Owen graduated from Delta State in 2003 with a B.F.A. in sculpture.  She was a graduate student in sculpture at the University of Alabama at the time of her death in an automobile accident near Birmingham on October 31, 2008. The exhibition is a survey of her art from the beginning of her student period through her work at the John Richards Company in Greenwood and her entry into graduate school. Drawings, paintings, 2-D design, and sculpture comprise the body of work on display.

The Melanie Tyler Owen Scholarship was established in 2008 with donations being accepted by the Art Department in her memory; anyone wishing to honor Melanie may send their gift to DSU Box 3141, Delta State University, Cleveland, MS 38733.
