Robertson Scholars Return to the Delta

Five Robertson Scholars from Duke University returned to the Delta to celebrate their graduation.  The group first came to the Delta during the summer of 2009, when the Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University helped place them in service settings.  That summer, they worked at the St. Gabriel Mercy Center in Mound Bayou, the Delta Center, the Sunflower Freedom Project, and the shelter in  Cleveland.  At the time, they had just finished their freshman year in college.

Since then, members of the group have lived in South Africa, Ghana, Togo, Kenya, Brazil, Argentina, and Ethiopia, and several members have become fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.  They came back to the Delta because they said it was the place where they felt they were most at home.  All have been admitted to medical or public health schools, or have accepted positions in commercial or non-governmental employment.  The Delta Center looks forward to welcoming another group of Robertson Scholars this summer.  They will arrive around June first.
