By April 10, 2012General

The Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) will hold a community meeting on Monday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Simmons Room of the Delta State University Foundation Building to discuss plans for the new Mississippi Museum of Civil Rights to be built in Jackson.

The MDAH is conducting meetings throughout the state to inform community leaders of the history of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum project.  The MDAH also hopes to  gather artifacts and first-hand accounts from veterans of the Civil Rights Movement for possible inclusion in the museum.

Hank Holmes, director of MDAH said, “We want citizens to know that their input is invaluable. We encourage you to come out to this meeting and share your thoughts. This museum is being built to honor your history and your opinion matters.”

The meeting will be facilitated by staff from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. For more information about the community meeting, contact Angela D. Stewart at (601) 576-6852 or email to astewart@mdah.state.ms.us .
