Guest clinician and pianists to headline Delta State’s Art of the Piano event

The Delta State University Department of Music will host its third annual Art of the Piano event February 17 -18, 2012 at the Bologna Performing Arts Center.
 
On Friday, February 17, at 7:30 p.m., guest artists Jungwon Anne Shin and BoWon Hong will perform a piano ensemble concert featuring works by Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Saint-Saëns, and Wilberg in the Recital Hall of the BPAC along with Delta State piano faculty Karen Fosheim and Jung-Won Shin.  The concert is free and open to the public.

On Saturday, February 18,  beginning at 9:30 a.m., pianists of all ages from around the Delta will come together for a day of recitals, master classes, and workshops centered on making music through the medium of the piano.

Guest clinician Dr. Karen Taylor, of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, will work with students at master classes and present a workshop for teachers titled “Was that a bassoon or a cello? Teaching Young Pianists the Art of Voicing and Tone Coloring.”  

Taylor is assistant professor of piano and director of the IU Young Pianists Program and the nationally respected Summer Piano Academy, and coordinator of pedagogy studies at Indiana University.  

Along with Taylor, Delta State piano faculty Jung-Won Shin, Kumiko Shimizu, and Karen Fosheim will serve as faculty for the event.  Saturday’s events will conclude at 4:30 p.m.
