Delta State University to present recital by pianist Bo Wo Hong

BoWon HongPianist BoWon Hong will present a guest artist recital, Romantic Spirit II: Beethoven and Chopin, on Tuesday, February 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center.  The recital will feature piano sonatas by Beethoven and Chopin.  The recital is free and open to the public.

Hong has appeared as a soloist and collaborative pianist in many recitals and concerts in Korea and Europe.  She has presented solo recitals in the major venues in Korea, such as Buam Art Hall, Gumho Art Hall, and the Seoul Arts Center.  Recently, she was invited to present a recital as part of the Wednesday Concert Series by the Geumjeong Cultural Center in Busan, Korea.

As the winner of the Yonsei University Annual Concerto Competition in 1995, Hong performed with the Yonsei University Orchestra in Korea. She was also invited to perform with the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ploiesti Philharmonic Orchestra in the Czech Republic.  She has frequently been featured at the concerts hosted by the Chopin Society and the Liszt Society in Korea. As a member of Piano Harmonia, an active piano ensemble group in Korea, she has been invited to perform many times at the Daejeon Culture and Arts Center and the Central Multi Broadcasting Company in Korea.  Hong’s other performances include concerts in Hammelburg, Germany.

Hong  is a graduate from Seoul Arts High School and Yonsei University in Korea. She has earned her Master’s and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in piano performance and literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the United States.  Her teachers include Ian Hobson, Bong-Ae Shin, and Suk Kim.  She has taught at several universities in Korea and is currently on the faculty of Dong-A University in Busan, Korea.
