Morehead to keynote Delta State University’s 2011 Fall Commencement

Dr. Billy Morehead

Dr. Billy Morehead, associate professor of accountancy at Mississippi College, will deliver the keynote address at Delta State University’s 2011 Fall Commencement on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m., inside Walter Sillers Coliseum on campus.

Morehead began his role at Mississippi College in August after retiring from Delta State University last June.  He joined the Delta State faculty in the fall of 2000, and served several roles during his tenure, including vice president for finance and administration, interim dean of the College of Business, chair of accountancy, computer information systems, and finance, and associate professor of accountancy. In May 2011, Morehead was recognized as the 29th recipient of the S.E. Kossman Outstanding Faculty Award and was honored with the title of Chair and Associate Professor of Accountancy Emeritus during the spring graduation ceremonies at Delta State.   

Serving as the 60th national president of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) in 2009-2010, Morehead made presentations in 45 of the association’s 100 chapters, including those in Hawaii, Tokyo, Guam, and Saipan.   He has a long history of involvement in AGA, having served as senior vice president for regional services, section II in 2001-2004; national treasurer in 1995-1996; regional vice president for the South Central Region in 1997-1998; and Jackson Chapter president in 1989-1990.  

Morehead has served on national AGA committees and boards and received numerous awards including  the National Educator Award in 2007 and Presidential Awards in 1998 and 2007. He is also active in the Mississippi Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, and numerous other professional and civic organizations.  

Morehead earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from Delta State University in 1984, a master’s degree in accountancy from Millsaps College in 1995 and a doctorate in international development from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2007. A certified public accountant, certified governmental financial manager and certified public manager, Morehead is a frequent lecturer on the subjects of fraud, internal controls, and ethics.  

Delta State is expected to graduate an estimated 430 students during its Fall Commencement. Each graduate will receive nine tickets for family and friends. Tickets are required for entry.
