Delta State’s Continuing Education to offer holiday classes in November

By November 8, 2011General

In preparation for the holiday season Delta State’s Office of Graduate and Continuing Studies has scheduled several new, creative, and fun holiday classes for both children and adults.

Cooking with Cam:

Join Dr. Cam McMillen as she demonstrates how to prepare quick and easy holiday appetizers and candies for your holiday celebrations. Demonstration of food preparation, useful tips, and recipes are provided along with a delicious lunch. This is a fun way to change up routine lunch plans. So, bring a friend for an entertaining and interactive lunch hour. The class will be held in the Ada Swindle Mitchell Food Lab in Ewing Hall on Friday November 11 from noon-1 p.m. The cost of the class is $20 per person or $35 per couple.

MS River Canoe Trip:
Led by John Ruskey from Quapaw Canoe Company of Clarksdale, and Dr. Mark Bonta, associate professor of geography at Delta State, the participants will enjoy a day of historical exploration down the Mississippi River. Travelling in a “Voyageur” style canoe that is stable and easily maneuverable, participants will periodically stop at various islands for brief lectures by Bonta. Participants will receive materials to take home, and have a chance to take in the beautiful scenery while enjoying lunch.

The Mississippi River Canoe Trip will be offered on Saturday, November 19, 2011 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.  The cost of the day-long excursion will be $65 for Delta State students and $100 for the public.  Depending on weather and water temperatures, a $35 wetsuit fee may be charged the day of the event.  The deadline to register for the event is Monday, November 14.

The Art of Holiday Wreath Making:
Join instructor Stacy Davis in a fun night of learning and laughter as she teaches how to make a wreath out of deco poly mesh as well as how to decorate your home for the holidays. Participants should bring at least one roll of poly mesh and any accessories they would like to include in their decorative wreath. The class will be held on Monday November 28 from 6 – 8 p.m. in Union Room 306, and the cost is $35 per person.  The deadline to register is Monday, November 21.

Mini Merry Makers:
Bring your 4k-5k little ones to an afternoon of holiday ornament making.  Each child will make several age- appropriate handmade treasures to enjoy for years to come.  The class will be conducted by Katie Franklin and held on Mondays, November 28–December 12 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Room 111 in the Wright Art Building.  Cost of the class is $35 per child.
