Delta State’s Department of Music to present a Woodwind Chamber Ensembles Concert

On Tuesday, November 1, at 7:30 pm, the Delta State University Department of Music will present the Woodwind Chamber Ensembles Concert in the Bologna Performing Arts Center Recital Hall, featuring the Delta State Flute Ensemble and the Delta State Saxophone Quartet.

The Delta State Flute Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Shelley Collins, assistant professor of music, will perform Salt of the Earth by Katherine McMichael and the Welsh lullaby Suo-gan. Members of the ensemble are Robyn Rouse of Gulfport, Jessica Egdorf of Hernando, Amanda Corkran of Olive Branch, Linda Smith of Cleveland, Emily Fox of Batesville, and Lindsey Belton of Olive Branch. Members of the ensemble were awarded first place in the Mississippi Music Teachers Association Chamber Music Competition in the spring of 2011.

The Delta State Saxophone Quartet, under the direction of Dr. Bret Pimentel, assistant professor of music, will perform selections prepared for the upcoming state-level Music Teachers National Association chamber music competition, including Three Pieces by Isaac Albeniz, The Little Shepherd by Claude Debussy, July by Michael Torke, and A Study in Contrasts by Sammy Nestico. Members of the quartet are Rondell Evans of Vicksburg, Steven Hugley of Vicksburg, Austin White of Vicksburg, and David Stafford of Ripley. During the past year, the quartet has performed all over the state of Mississippi, and has taken top honors in the Mississippi Music Teachers Association Chamber Music Competition and the Delta State Chamber Music Competition.
