Delta Center’s Brown honored

Chris Masingill, Federal Co-Chair of the Delta Regional Authority, Dr. Luther Brown, and Robert Clark, Chair of the Mississippi Delta Strategic Compact.

Dr. Luther Brown, director of the Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University, recently received an award from the Mississippi Delta Strategic Compact for his work promoting tourism.  

The Delta Strategic Compact was formed in 2010  ”…to galvanize regional unity, teamwork and collaboration on issues that will revitalize the Delta and improve the quality of life for all citizens.”  Dr. Brown received the award at the first annual meeting of the Compact, held in the Washington County Convention Center in Greenville.  

Other award recipients were Sister Maureen Delany of the Tutwiler Community Education Center (Education); Dr. Arnold Smith of Greenwood (Healthcare); Greenwood Public Schools (Education Entity); River Region Health System Women’s Health Expo of Vicksburg (Healthcare Entity); Double Quick, Inc. (Economic Development).  The special Chairman’s Award went to Bill McPherson for his role in developing the B. B. King Museum.  

The event was sponsored by the Delta Regional Authority.  Leland Speed of the Mississippi Development Authority and Dr. Darrin Webb, Mississippi State Economist, gave keynote speeches and Congressman Bennie Thompson addressed the meeting via video-conference.
