Delta State students gather in remembrance of Teikia Dorsey and Loshandria Rice.

Delta State University students gathered at the Greek Tree on campus Thursday evening for a candlelight vigil in remembrance of Teikia Dorsey and Loshandria Rice.  Dorsey, a senior majoring in health, physical education and recreation, and Rice, a sophomore biology major, both of Shaw, died in a traffic accident in Shaw Thursday morning.

Audience members, including faculty and staff, lit candles just before 8 p.m. as the sun set.  Pan-Hellenic President J.W. Robinson, a senior from Greenville, who organized the event, welcomed those in attendance and was followed by songs, prayers, and remarks from fellow students.

“I was very impressed with the compassion shown by our students in the loss  of two members of the Delta State family,” said Delta State Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Wayne Blansett. “ It was touching to see how much they care for their fellow students.”
