Entergy Mississippi presented a $5,000 donation to the Bologna Performing Arts Center on Friday, June 17, to support the Janice Wyatt Mississippi Summer Arts Institute.

Cheryl Comans, customer service manager for Cleveland, presented the check to Laura Howell, arts education coordinator at the Bologna Performing Arts Center, and Dr. Shelley Collins, assistant professor of music at Delta State University and a 2011 Mississippi Summer Arts Institute faculty member.

Howell is appreciative of the donation to the Summer Arts Institute.  “We are grateful to Entergy for giving our young people the chance to participate in the Institute.  Their support goes directly towards student scholarships and the hiring of highly qualified, artistic faculty,” said Howell.

“We are fortunate to have a program like the Summer Arts Institute in the Delta,” Howell added.  “The Institute provides students ages 5-18 with incredible education opportunities to further their artistic training.”  It is not only Delta children that benefit from the summer arts programming.  This summer, the Institute is expecting students from across the state of Mississippi. “Entergy Mississippi is proud to support its local communities with gifts that further education in the community,” said Comans.  “The Art Institute at Delta State is a good example of furthering educational opportunities in the Delta and state-wide.”

This year marks the 14th summer that the Mississippi Summer Arts Institute has been in existence.  The Institute offers opportunities in dance, theater, visual arts, music, and the literary arts.   The Summer Arts Institute has programs designed for five-year-olds to graduating high school seniors.
