The Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University, recently participated in the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Riders by hosting a Delta tour for former Freedom Riders, families and friends to Money, Parchman and Ruleville.

The group was treated to lunch at Parchman by Senator Willie Simmons. After lunch, they were allowed to visit maximum security Unit 17, where the Freedom Riders were imprisoned in 1961 for trying to enforce federal laws governing the integration of transportation facilities.

The last stop on the tour was Ruleville, where the State had just unveiled a Freedom Trail marker in the memory of Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer.
