The Delta State University Delta Center for Culture and Learning recently provided an introduction to the Delta’s cultural heritage to members of the Oak Park, Illinois, B’nai Abraham Zion Temple.

The group of 30 visitors was led by Rabbi Max Weiss, and accompanied by Stuart Rockoff of the Institute of Southern Jewish Life in Jackson.

The travelers passed through the Delta on their way from New Orleans to Memphis. They explored Jewish history in the South and learned about the Blues and Civil Rights heritage.

The group is pictured in front of the collection of life-masks, cast from the faces of living Blues performers by artist Sharon McConnell. The collection is house in Ewing Hall on the Delta State campus.
