Delta State’s Continuing Education to offer classes to engage all age groups in upcoming weeks

Delta State University Continuing Education will be offering classes to engage all community age groups in the upcoming weeks. Children, teenagers, and adults are sure to find a course they will be interested in such as Mini Expressions Easter Art, Yoga, Lifeguard Certification, and an adventurous Mississippi River Canoe Trip.
 
Mini Expressions Easter Art – ages 4k-5k
Hop on over to Delta State and join us for Easter art. Your child will make Easter creations out of various materials to treasure year after year. This class will be held from 3:30 – 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, in Room 111 of the Wright Art Center Gallery. The cost of the class is $25.
 
Yoga for Every Body
Spring into summer stress free with the help of relaxing breathing techniques and poses. This course is a perfect way to relax and start to understand the art of Yoga. Certified Yoga Fit instructor Ann Mesaros will teach this course from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., on Monday and Thursday nights April 25 –  May 19. Cost for the 8 session class is $75. This class will meet in the Atrium of Kent Wyatt Hall.
 
Lifeguard Certification Class
This certification class will qualify you for the job of a Certified Lifeguard and will provide the ability to save lives. To be eligible for the class you must be at least 15 years old, be in sound health, attend all four days of certification, and be able to pass the preliminary swimming test. The certification, taught by Ronnie Mayers, will be held from 6 – 10 p.m., May 2 -5, in the Delta State Aquatics Center. Class cost is $150 per participant.
 
Express Yourself: Fundamentals of Drawing
Focus on the traditional and contemporary approaches in drawing. Participants will learn basic drawing skills and experiment with various techniques and materials. No previous training is required.  Cetin Oguz, associate professor of art at Delta State, will be the instructor. The class will meet Monday – Thursday, May 9 – 20 from 5:30 – 7:00pm. The class will be held in Holcomb Norwood Rm. 250 on the campus. The cost for all eight sessions is $150 including the materials fee.  

Mississippi River Canoe Trip: An Exploration of the Forgotten Delta
Join Dr. Mark Bonta, geography professor, and John Ruskey, of Quapaw Canoe Company, as they lead you on a historical exploration of the Mississippi River from Hurricane Point to Terrene Landing. This trip is open for Non Credit and CEU credit interest.  The voyage will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 14. Cost of this day trip is $100, additional wet-suit charge of $35 may be added due to weather conditions. Travel to and from the launch points will be provided.  No experience needed!
