Delta State University Wind Ensemble takes annual tour March 8-9

By March 3, 2011General

The Delta State University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. John Wojcik, director of bands at Delta State, will take its annual tour March 8-9.

On Tuesday, March 8, the ensemble will perform for the band students at Kosciusko High School in the morning and for the band students at Meridian High School in the evening.

On Wednesday, March 9, the ensemble will perform for the bands at Madison Central and Brandon High Schools.

A tour concert for the Cleveland area will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 10, in the Delta and Pine Lands Theatre in the Bologna Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Wind Ensemble will open its tour performances with Cityscape by Scott Boerma. Second on the program will be the beautifully flowing Dakota Rhapsody by Mark Camphouse.  The ensemble will then perform Godzilla Eats Las Vegas by Eric Whitacre. This piece will be a multi-media presentation as the terrifying monster systematically destroys the town.

Screams and roars will fill the auditorium with dread and yes, a good deal of laughter. Don’t miss this one.

Fourth on the program will be the one of the staples of band literature, Symphonic Dance No. 3, ‘Fiesta’ by Clifton Williams.  Come with us across the border to enjoy the sights and sounds of a typical Mexican celebrations, including the famous bullfight. The concert will conclude with William Latham’s march, Proud Heritage.

The Delta State Wind Ensemble is the university’s premiere large instrumental organization. Its membership is determined by auditions that take place at the beginning of the fall semester and again at the beginning of the spring semester.
