Wright Art Center Gallery to host father and son show February 27

The Fielding Wright Art Center Gallery at Delta State University will host an opening reception for the exhibition Walden Twice, Walden Twice: A Father and Son Show from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 27, in the Gallery. The work will be available for viewing through March 25.

A homecoming of sorts for the artists, Jerry Walden was a faculty member in the Art Department for nine years from 1971-1980, teaching Painting and Printmaking.  Robert spent his early youth growing up in Cleveland within the artistic community. In subsequent years, Jerry was a professor and chair of the Art Department at the University of Southern Mississippi and at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He is presently Professor of Art & Design Emeritus.  Robert studied at the University of Southern Mississippi in History, Art and Music Performance and received his BFA from the Atlanta College of Art, Atlanta, Georgia. He is currently a resident of Brooklyn, New York.

Both artists have participated in exhibitions nationally and internationally and have received recognition for their art via prestigious awards or grants. The current body of work and wryly entitled show made its debut in 2010 at Winthrop University Galleries in South Carolina and this is its first presentation in a new venue.

Robert Walden’s drawings in this show, called Ontological Road Maps, are pictures of time with a literal play on mapping. He uses physical, temporal, and literal metaphors to present concepts of location and identity among other concepts.

The public is cordially invited to view the art and meet the artists during the reception. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., and Friday 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
