Hamel to present First Tuesday Program at Delta State

The Delta State University Department of Art and The Delta Center for Culture and Learning will host a First Tuesday Program by Dr. Paul Hamel at 12:10 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, in the Wright Art Center Gallery.  

The lecture will be entitled “DSU – Do Something Useful for Migratory Birds on Your Campus."  The talk will be about certain species a person might encounter in different habitats in the Mississippi Delta and what it is that brought them here.

Hamel is a Research Wildlife Biologist at the Center for Bottomland Hardwoods Research Station in Stoneville, which is part of the USDA Forest Service, which is part of the USDA Forest Service. His primary duties and major research interest involve impacts of forest management and landscape processes on biology, conservation and management of wildlife, especially Neotropical and other migratory birds in the Mississippi Alluvial Valley.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology, a Master of Science degree in Vertebrate Zoology and a Master of Science degree in Park and Recreation Resources from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in Zoology from Clemson University.

Hamel has published five books and nearly 200 scientific and poplar papers primarily in avian ecology. In 1989, he was an elective member of the American Ornithologists’ Union. In 1987, he received the Outstanding Book Award by the Southeastern Section of the Wildlife Society for “Bachman’s Warbler: A species in peril.”  In 1998, he received a National Award given by the USDA Forest Service for use of Volunteers in Research.
First Tuesday is sponsored by the Art Department & the First Tuesday Committee and is scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month during fall and spring semesters.
First Tuesday features lectures, readings, and presentations representing diverse perspectives in the arts and humanities. The First Tuesday Programs are free and open to the public. Those attending may bring a brown bag lunch. Coffee will be provided.
