Delta State’s Delta Business Institute of Health to promote workplace wellness

By February 18, 2011General

The Delta Business Institute of Health (DBIH), a newly established program in Delta State University’s College of Business, will conduct a mail survey of employers in nine Mississippi counties starting in late February and continuing to mid March.

The purpose of this survey is to estimate the number of employers in the nine-county area who provide elements of a workplace health promotion program, to estimate the interest of area employers in learning more about workplace health promotion activities, and to identify those employers who would like guidance in developing and/or expanding health promotion activities at their workplace.

A random sample of at least 250 employers has been selected from nine counties in the Delta area (Bolivar, Coahoma, Humphreys, Leflore, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tunica, and Washington).

The DBIH was created to promote and expand workplace wellness with its “Healthy Lifestyle Challenge Initiative.”  The program will include free health screenings and seminars at participating work sites.  This research study is directed by Delta State University ‘s College of Business  and supported by the Delta Health Alliance through funding from the Office of Rural Health Policy, a branch of the Health Resources and Services Administration.
