The Delta State University Music Department will present the Delta State Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band in concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21, in the Bologna Performing Arts Center.
The Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. John Wojcik will take the stage first and open with Full Tilt by Richard Saucedo. The second piece will be Shortcut Home, a markedly rhythmic offering by Dana Wilson. The Wind Ensemble will next perform a beautifully flowing arrangement by Frank Ticheli of the ever popular Amazing Grace.
The Wind Ensemble will then bring their portion of the concert to an exciting close with Brian Balmages’s energetic Raging Machines.
Following a short intermission, the Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Bret Pimentel, will take the stage. Selections will include big-band classics like Woodchoppers’ Ball and That Warm 
Feeling (from the repertoires of the Woody Herman and Count Basie bands), as well as contemporary tunes like The Chicken (a funk-rock tune popularized by Jaco Pastorious) and Mira, Mira (a modern blend of jazz and salsa).
