Delta State to host 2010 Mississippi Music Teachers Conference

Randall FaberThe Delta State University Department of Music will be hosting the 2010 Mississippi Music Teachers Association Annual Conference and Competitions beginning Thursday, Nov. 4 through Saturday, Nov. 6, on the campus.

The conference will feature several presentations by Mississippi music educators as well as guest clinicians, a commissioned composition, and a piano recital by the featured conference artist, Randall Faber.
 
Faber will be performing at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 5, in the Delta and Pine Land Theatre of the Bologna Performing Arts Center. He will be performing works by Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Gershwin, and Debussy. Dr. Faber is an active recitalist, lecturer, and pedagogue in the United States and abroad. The concert is free and open to the public.
 
The MMTA Commissioned Composition Performance is at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Nov.5, in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center. The composer, Howard Keever of William Carey University, will present his new work “Dreams: A Song Cycle on Poems of Langston Hughes.”  The work will be performed by Leo Day, tenor and Ellen Elder, piano.  The performance is free and open to the public.
 
Students from around Mississippi will be participating in two days of competitions. Student instrumentalists and singers will be competing for the opportunity to advance to division level competitions in Georgia in January.
