Delta State hosts Business Conference

The Delta State Center for Community and Economic Development in partnership with the Delta State College of Business and the AmericCorps*VISTA Project ASSETS hosted the 2nd annual Business Conference for Woman & Minorities on Wednesday, Sept. 8, in the State Room of the H.L. Union on the campus.  

Approximately 125 were in attendance for the event which opened with an address from keynote speaker Martha Perine Beard. Beard serves as senior branch executive of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Memphis branch.  

The day proceeded with a series of morning and afternoon workshops ranging from understanding credit to state agency contracting. The event concluded with a panel discussion focusing on the economic impact of small businesses.  

"This conference provided a wealth of knowledge to business owners and emerging business owners,” said Deborah Moore, director of the Center. “Presenters and attendees were very impressed with the resources that were made available at the conference.”

Established in August 1994, the Center for Community and Economic Development at Delta State University represents the commitment of Delta State University to engage in teaching, outreach, and research programs that improve and enhance the quality of life in the Mississippi Delta region. The stated mission of the Center is Building and Empowering Relationships that Strengthen Communities, an exercise in social capital building. Outreach and research guided by this mission utilize, expand, and deepen the human resource base of the region while addressing the critical economic and community development needs.
